Our path to impact

2017: A dream becomes a reality

In 2017, Marcello Bonatto and Alexandra Clare launched Re:Coded after identifying the education-to-employment gap for populations heavily impacted by conflict and displacement. They brought the coding bootcamp model to Iraq and Turkey, impacting youth who were being left at the margins of the digital economy. Their goal was to give them access to new skills and life-changing employment in tech, allowing participants to transcend the boundaries of local labor markets and open themselves up to new possibilities in the digital economy.

2017

2018: Scaling our impact and model

Re:Coded's impact was scaled to new geographies, including a pilot in Yemen, a country deeply impacted by conflict. The team continued to refine the education model, improve internal operations, and build a network of partners dedicated to developing diverse tech ecosystems.

2018

2019: Growth and experimentation

This year, our organization experienced significant growth. We doubled our team size to over 30 and tripled our impact. We established the first co-working space in Northern Iraq, known as Re:Coded House, which became a hub for our operations and a learning and networking space for our students. We opened our first Istanbul office, experimented with more advanced training programs and technologies like Blockchain, and laid the groundwork for future scalability and impact.

2019

2020: Taking everything online

The pandemic provided us with an opportunity to shift our education model online and restructure the organization for optimal efficiency. We haven't looked back since. No longer limited by physical locations, we ran seven country-wide programs in 2020 and eight in 2021, now adding Lebanon, Jordan, and Palestine to our countries of operation. We grew our team to over 40 and went fully remote, embracing a new world of work and flexibility.

2020

2021: Scaling to become a educational leader in the region

Currently, we operate in seven countries and plan to expand to new markets within the next year. Our organization teaches digital skills and promotes a critical mindset to enable underserved talent to thrive in the job market and effect change in their families, communities, and the tech industry as a whole. Our primary objective for the upcoming year is to continue improving and automating our operational model for growth.
