Last week marked another momentous occasion for us, the graduation of our Urfa cohort.
After six months of hardwork and dedication, a group of 30 students, a mix of Syrian refugees and Turkish youth, graduated the Re:Coded Android Bootcamp, with the ability to call themselves developers. And this, just like our Erbil graduation, wouldn’t have been possible without the continuous support from people like you.
Our Fellows spent the last few months developing several amazing apps, from a tool to aid and support refugees with Beyond Refuge to an application that helps students apply to a variety of scholarships in Turkey.
So, what's next?
Two weeks ago, we launched our first bootcamp in Istanbul. This has been a dream in the making for the team over the past year.
We have a cohort of 34 students who are beginning their journey towards becoming not only great developers, but leaders and friends.
Our students are in the early stages of our bootcamp, but will soon be taking on client projects, and building their own prototypes.
Earlier in the month, we hosted Tarry Singh, Founder of DeepKapha.AI and a AI Neuroscience Researcher.
We host regular Speaker Sessions, so if you, or anyone you know, may be interested in sharing your knowledge with our fellows, drop us a message. If you’d like to attend future Speaker Sessions, let us know here, and make sure to follow @recodedofficial for regular updates.
#ReCodedFellows: Yusef Issa Basha
“Hi my name is Yusef, and I'm originally from Aleppo, Syria. Before moving to Istanbul, I was studying telecommunication engineering at Aleppo University for two-years, and then came to Istanbul to try and continue my studies as an engineer. I started to get interested in programming and coding, as I’ve always been amazed by computers, and technology and was always curious on how such things were built, and how they worked. In Istanbul, I’m a volunteer at a UnitedWork, a Dutch organisation, that helps Syrian refugees find employment here in Turkey. I hope to become an Android Developer, and maybe begin my career as a freelancer to try and improve my financial life. I’ve enjoyed the Re:Coded bootcamp, as its let me build a good community, and make new connections with people.”
