Re:Coded is nonprofit organization registered in the United States, with operations in Iraq, Turkey and Yemen. Our mission is to prepare conflict-affected youth to enter the digital economy as software developers and tech leaders. Since 2017, we have trained more than 450 children and young adults how to code. Over 85% of our graduates, seeking employment after graduation find technical work within 6 months. Our activities include coding bootcamps, entrepreneurship training, a co-working space, and tech workshops and events.

As war-shattered economies start to get back on their feet, we train the generation that will drive these countries forward with the help of technology, while helping to solve the global technical talent shortage.

What We Want

Re:Coded is seeking a Finance and Administrative Assistant to support financial aspects of our activities in Iraq under the supervision of the Finance Manager. You will be responsible for a full range of cash management duties, bookkeeping, vendor payment processing, receipt of collection and the reconciliation of financial transaction. The scope of the position includes but is not limited to assisting with entering local transactions in accounting software, running monthly reports, monitoring receivables and payables, preparing documents for financial reporting and audit, procuring goods and services, and performing other administrative duties as required.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management and Compliance

  • Ensures that all policies and procedures are in compliance with Re:Coded and funding source policies, procedures, and requirements.

  • Apply internationally accepted accounting principles and procedures to analysing financial information and prepare accurate and timely financial reports;

  • Maintain a good system of records;

  • Support the Finance Manager to prepare monthly actual-to-budget expenditure reports and analysis for all grants and unrestricted funds.

  • Assist in monitoring cash balances, prepare advance account reconciliations and bank reconciliations;

  • Assist program and administrative staff to ensure transactions are properly coded;

  • Support payroll processing for local staff and ensure that staff is paid accurately and in timely manner.

  • Ensure that vendors are paid timely and accurately.

  • Facilitate and support external, internal, donor or government audits.

  • Maintain current knowledge of local government requirements related to financial matters and ensure compliance with tax regulations and other legal requirements.


  • Assist the timely preparation, review and approval of all monthly bank account and cash reconciliations.

  • Support the Finance Manager in the preparation of Cash Transfer Requests to the Chief Operating Officer and ensure that appropriate balances are maintained to facilitate grant implementation.

  • Establish and maintain effective, sustainable relationships with bank officials in the cities where Re:Coded operates in Iraq.

Administrative Duties

  • Responsible for office management planning and implementation, including but not limited to inventory, storage, procurement of goods and services, office maintenance, etc.

  • Manage and coordinate internal travel, lodging, and transportation of and for country staff as required.

  • Perform other administrative tasks as required.

  • Minimum 2 years of work experience in in clerical accounting, bookkeeping or a similar finance role, preferably supporting financial operations in organizations with international donors.

  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, economics, finance or related field.

  • Experience with grant financial reporting, cash and budget management processes.

  • Experience working with computerized accounting systems, standard spreadsheet and database programs is required. Experience working with Quickbooks Online is preferred.

  • Strong computer skills and ability to easily navigate all platforms within G-Suite and Microsoft Office.

  • Strong working knowledge of communication tools like Slack and Trello.

  • Proficiency in written and spoken English and Arabic is a must. Working knowledge of Kurdish is highly desirable.

  • Handling sensitive and confidential information with honesty and integrity.

  • Available for short term travel within Iraq.
