Re:Coded Fellow, Sanliurfa
Tell me about yourself, where you’re from, where you grew up?
I was born and raised in in Al-Hasakah, Syria. After finishing high school, I moved to Deir ez-Zor to to study Mathematics at Al-Furat University, and graduated in 2011. After this I went to Damascus to continue with a degree of Teaching Methods for a year at Damascus University. I finished it at 2012 and after that I stayed in Al-Hasakah city and taught Maths for 5 years in high schools. I came here in 2016 and I stayed in Gaziantep for 3 months and I moved to Urfa where I’m now working at a private school.
What were you doing before this program?
I was, and still am, working as Maths teacher. In addition, I also volunteered for NGOs that supported children with special needs, as well as working with young kids who may have lost their parents in the war.
What made you interested in coding/programming? Do you have background experience?
In university, I took a couple courses on coding, specifically C++, and have always tried to learn more. Back in Syria, first started with iOS, and then moved onto Android coding but I then had to leave home. I didn't get a chance to improve my Android skills until this bootcamp.
Why do you want to learn coding? Why do you like it?
I think maybe it gives me new opportunities for new jobs, this is the main objective for me. Because I’m also considering changing my career so I would like to improve my coding skills accordingly.
Tell us about what you’ve learnt so far?
I learned basic things about how can we making layouts for apps, and basic things about coding at Java for now!
What have you enjoyed?
Actually every part of this course I enjoyed a lot! The people are very nice here, trainer Emin teacher, our coordinators are as well. The way that we are trained, is kind of strange to me because I haven’t attended any course like this; we have to learn ourselves as well as we trained in class, it’s not like traditional methods we have learned.
What do you hope to gain out of this program?
I hope I can find new jobs with what I learned from here and start a new career maybe!
Is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I'd be interested in learning Python. It's a newer, more powerful code language so maybe we consider teaching python!
